Five key things to do to create and maintain compelling products and services

1. What does the market need, want and desire?

Developing compelling products and services starts with understanding what customers and prospects want regardless of what you are selling. Do you understand what they want? Do they understand what they want? By understanding rational and emotional drivers you stand a better chance of appealing more deeply to prospects.

2. How do or could they use your product or service?

Understand what they are doing at the moment and the broader context of that behaviour. If you want your product to be compelling, that means understanding behaviour as well as attitudes. If you focus too tightly on the obvious needs, it is possible that you will miss things that they do that might prevent them using your service or product and things that give you an opportunity to provide something better, simpler or broader.

3. What do they know about you and your competitors?

Understanding the market view of your prospects is key in identifying product developments that you need to make and what to communicate about them.

4. How well do your products and services meet perceived needs?

Test your products and services, concepts and ideas an iterative programme. Use the feedback from each stage to develop your ideas. Allow time for market research in the research and development programme. If your prospects don’t like it, your investment is wasted.

5. What is the response to product or service launch?
